Effect of selenium on growth performance, haematological indices, carcass characteristics and sensory properties of broiler chicken

The vital role of selenium in various metabolic reactions and its as a component antioxidant enzymes has awaken research interest livestock production. Its influence on animal fertility, production disease prevention is subject for on-going research. Deficiency have serious negative effect skeletal cardiac muscles which will turn reduce growth, there dearth information growth performance, haematological indices carcass characteristics broiler chicken, the reason this study. An experiment was carried out to investigate indices, sensory properties birds. Atotal 120, one-day-old chicks were randomly assigned four treatments completely randomized design further divided into three replicates with 10birds per replicate. Selenium administered orally through their drinking water levels such that treatment (T ) served control. T , received 0.2mg, 0.4mg, 1 2 3 4 0.6mg, respectively. Data collected properties. Results showed significantly (p<0.05) improved final body weight (FBW), weight, dressed birds feed conversion ratio (FCR). Birds onT (2123.33g) had highest FBW least FCR (2.45) compared those other treatments. There no significant (p>0.05) differences meat. Result from study increased packed cell volume haemoglobin concentration. obtained revealed inclusion especially at 0.4mg level well health status without having any detrimental birds.
